Jesmine: I am from the other West of South China Sea, the Peninsular Malaysia. I have been shocked reading the many struggles of my fellow Malaysians on the East of South China Sea. I am only beginning to understand their struggles. But I would like to understand how then did Barisan Nasional (BN) survive all these years in Sarawak.

What was the sentiment behind my fellow Malaysians there who chose BN to reign and manipulate to such terrible extend? My heart just irks with more disgust on BN and how they rule this country and as for the Sarawak state government: How could you do this to your own kind, your own ‘orang bumi'?

Smell: There is absolutely something terribly wrong with Malaysian police. First, Malaysians wear no black. Sell no black shirts. Second, set no canopy. Canopy set, workers under arrest.

The issue is not whether we wear black or red, canopy or no canopy, eat or not eat. The issue is WHERE IS OUR FREEDOM & VOICE?

Keith Liow: My response to the latest outcry on the scholarship issue is simple: remove JPA completely out of the loop because the agency is either too incompetent or is lacking in integrity and transparency.

While I would think the money could be better spent by upgrading the education environment locally, there remains many positive benefits in sending our young ones aboard. If the government insists on providing scholarships as a mean of uplifting the quality of education of Malaysians by sending them abroad, I have one humble suggestion: Leave the decisions and the entire selection-making process to the designated higher education learning institutions.

Prospective bright students would apply to these select, world-recognised institutions (top 10 in the Times magazine ranking or something similar), and let the administrators of these institutions decide who amongst the Malaysian applicants are deserving of a place and a Malaysian government-sponsored scholarship. I trust that these institutions have better reasons to guard their reputation for fairness and excellence than some of the so-called civil institutions in our country.
