No more ACA reports against Sgor MB, says dejected media activist

Media activist Ahmad Lufti Othman today said he will not lodge a report on the latest graft scandal concerning Selangor Menteri Besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo as he has lost confidence in the Anti-Corruption Agency.

Lufti told malaysiakini the corruption watchdog did not respond to his previous five reports against the Menteri Besar despite persistent enquiries as to the progress of their investigations.

The director of the ACA Selangor branch Azni Hamzah is reluctant to meet with me. I have made several enquiries but I have not been entertained. It is a waste of time to continue, he said.

The latest allegation against Mohd Khir surfaced in an open letter which was faxed to Asni yesterday.

The letter, signed by one Baharuddin Mohd Noor, claimed that the Menteri Besar would pocket some RM20 million from a major pipe laying project in the state.

Not corruption

Previously, Lufti had lodged reports regarding Mohd Khirs awarding of a 435-hectare logging site in a forest reserve to a four-month-old company and the granting of a road construction project to a blacklisted company.

The media activist had also lodged a report claiming the Menteri Besar had purchased heavily discounted land from the state government and given various plots of state land to companies with questionable credentials.

Mohd Khir had denied all these allegations in the state assembly meeting last November.

Lufti said an ACA official had informed him that his complaints were invalid as the agency deals only with graft cases involving close family members.

I was told that cases involving cronies do not constitute as corruption. Those that are against the law are supposed to be those involving family members, he added.
