Soon after becoming prime minister, Najib Abdul Razak had dropped by a popular Indian eatery in Brickfields for teh tarik and thosai.

najib tun razak 220509 Accompanied by a large entourage, including Federal Territories Deputy Minister M Saravanan, and a bevy of police vehicles, the premier brought traffic to a standstill when he decided to have a quick bite at the restaurant.

In order to commemorate the memorable event, the owner of Restaurant Kottumalai has decided to name a portion of the premises as 'Najib's Corner'.

Speaking to Bernama , restaurant owner S Sellapa recounted how the premier had a glass of teh tarik at his outlet.

Second visit

"It was the second time he (Najib) visited the shop. The first time was when he became deputy prime minister.

najib visit petaling street 040409 "To show our appreciation and support to him, we have decided to name a portion of the shop as Najib's corner," he said.

Sellapa added that the portion will also boast a photograph of Najib enjoying a cup of teh tarik at the restaurant.

Saravanan will officiate the opening of Najib's Corner on Sunday at 11am.

Najib had visited the restaurant on April 4, a day after becoming prime minister, as part of his walking tour of several key areas in Kuala Lumpur.

Before visiting the Indian community dominated area of Brickfields, Najib went to Petaling Street, or better known as the city’s Chinatown, in an apparent bid to woo Chinese supporters there.

He had also visited the predominantly Malay populated area of Kerinchi.
