The party polls, dubbed as the most crowded in PAS’ history, are clearly on the minds of a number of delegates in the Muslimat (women’s wing) this year.

Representatives from each state were given two minutes to present their two cents worth on key burning issues, although not many stay within the limits of the allocated time.

Penang delegate Suraya Mohd Saad stressed that “proper guidelines” were needed to be drawn relating to the selection of the candidates.

“If a candidate does not evoke the confidence in the people, it will be difficult for the people to vote for the person,” she said, without naming anyone specifically.

Lobbying for party posts is scorned by a majority of party members as this is not considered the PAS way.

The Kedah delegate questioned the necessity of lobbying and warned that the next party polls in two years’ time would be very different if campaigning was allowed.

“How many candidates will be contesting in the next muktamar?” she said, suggesting that the numbers of candidates would increase if everyone can campaign.

“We say we are sincere and open in our intentions but is this what is really happening?” she asked as the time-keeper cut her off.

The Muslimat is holding its elections today while polling for top party posts will be held tomorrow.

Delegate outraged schoolkids not wearing tudung

Meanwhile, a delegate from Malacca lamented that it is no longer an offence if Muslim students fail to wear the head scarf in schools.

She added that the issue should be discussed at a national level.

Today’s debates were a closed-door event. However, the party’s official Muslimat website provides live streaming of the proceedings.
