Despite the widespread speculation, Perak Gerakan does not believe that disgruntled party vice-president Huan Cheng Guan will cross over to PKR.

On May 31, the Gerakan Central Working Committee (CWC) had issued a show-cause letter to the Penang-based Huan over his stinging criticisms against the party.

The former Batu Kawan MP has been given 14 days to reply and the deadline is this Saturday.

However, Perak Gerakan chief and deputy president Chang Ko Youn begged to differ.

"Pakatan Rakyat is in a mess," he said, adding that there is a lot of internal struggles in the opposition coalition, which is on the verge of crumbling.

"I don’t think Huan will go for that (PKR). Huan has been in the party for so many years and we have worked together and I don’t see any reason for him to leave.

"After all, he has been an MP and the party has given him a lot of opportunities for him to perform," he added.

Not happy with coordinator

According to Chang, Gerakan has appointed a coordinator for each of the Pakatan-ruled constituency in Penang and Huan is not happy with one of the appointed coordinators.

Previously, sources had told Malaysiakini that talks were underway between Huan and the PKR leadership.

Huan was said to be positioning himself for a strong deal with the PKR leadership to ensure that he will join Anwar Ibrahim's party on a high.

"Since he is Gerakan vice-president, Huan and his colleagues will definitely not come into PKR as ordinary members without any positions.

"He will want some strong posts for him and his team in PKR," said a PKR source, adding that the negotiations have been positive so far.

Huan, 48, previously served as a special officer to former Penang deputy chief minister Dr Ibrahim Saad in the early 1990s, a close aide of then deputy premier Anwar.
