Polls losers Husam, Sabu co-opted into CC
Islamic party PAS today agreed to absorb both Husam Musa and Mohamad Sabu into its central committee at meeting held this morning.
PAS has appointed both Husam Musa and Mohamad Sabu - the key losers in last weekend's party polls - into its central committee at meeting held this morning.
Both Husam and Mohamad were defeated by incumbent Nasharuddin Mat Isa for the deputy president's post.
Their inclusion into the powerful committee was largely anticipated.
Husam and Mohamad have chosen not to defend their vice-president's post in challenging Nasharuddin at the polls, leaving the duo empty-handed following their loss.
The party also named Mustafa Ali as its new secretary-general, replacing Kamaruddin Jaffar who had decided to give up the position.
Kamaruddin has been elected a central committee member in the party polls.
Meanwhile, Mustafa's post as the party's elections director has been handed over to Abdul Halim Abd Rahman, who is former Kelantan deputy menteri besar.
The meeting this morning, chaired by party president Abdul Hadi Awang, was the first after the election of new office bearers. It was held at the party's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
Two of the eight co-opted into the central committee are women where Mariah Mahmud and Wan Ubaidah Wan Omar will be joining Dr Lo'Lo' Ghazali - the only woman who won a seat.
The party made minor changes to its state leadership with Harun Taib replacing Mustafa in Terengganu while Abu Bakar Hussein taking over from Ahmad Awang in Perak.
Hadi: We need their leadership
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Abdul Hadi said he was confident that Husam, Mat Sabu and all the other appointed leaders will accept the appointments.
"Insya Allah they will receive the appointments as this leadership is important to the party," he said, adding that the leaders have been informed about their appointments.
He was also asked as to why Husam and Mat Sabu were only given position in the central committee and not any other higher party posts.
"We have decided to give them important roles in charge of party's strategy. This is different from Umno where defeated candidates will not be re-appointed," he said
On Mustafa's appointment as secretary-general, Abdul Hadi said:
"He is a very experienced and senior leader in charge administration and I need to strengthen the party's administration because all this while he was only focusing on (our party organ) Harakah ."
Mustafa is Harakah 's chairperson.
Mat Sabu, when contacted, said he needed time to consider the appointment.
