Keadilan president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail today said the partys former deputy Dr Chandra Muzaffar was entitled to express his opinion of Keadilan.

Wan Azizah said that both she and her husband, jailed former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim, appreciated Chandra's contribution to the party when he was a party leader.

She added that together with Chandra, the party leaders and members have gone through a lot since Keadilan started in 1999.

"As for perceiving us as God-fearing and virtuous, I prefer, in the final analysis, to leave it to my maker," Wan Azizah told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

"I think what He (God) thinks of me is more important," added the Permatang Pauh member of Parliament.

Wan Azizah was responding to Chandra's statement yesterday that he hoped Anwar and Azizah would choose to be truthful, sincere and honest about their so-called struggle for justice.

Chandra, who left Keadilan in January prior to declining contest for top positions in the party, said the couple should let the people know the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

He implored them to be true to their conscience and said that loyalty to ones conscience is the highest expression of ones devotion to God.

After all, Anwar and Wan Azizah are perceived by a small segment of society as God-fearing, virtuous human beings, he said in a press statement yesterday.

Complaints ignored

Chandra also revealed he had exchanged letters with both of them about problems with the party leadership for over two years.

I have over the years raised issues and problems of transparency, accountability and financial management within the party and the way decisions were made, said the president of the International Movement for a Just World.

Asked how they had reacted to his complaints, Chandra replied, I realised that there was no earnest attempt to address the issues.

Chandra and several party leaders have been having a war of words since he criticised Keadilan in Penang for practising the concept of "the ends justify the means".

His comments drew criticism from vice-president Azmin Ali who said he (Chandra) was no longer relevant.

The party's deputy youth president Mohamad Zahid Md Arip then challenged Chandra to expose Keadilan's weaknesses.

Yesterday, former Keadilan vice-president Marina Yusof criticised Chandra and accused him of dividing the party.

She also said he was "manipulative, authoritarian and a dismal failure in politics".

Keadilan was formed in 1999 after the sacking and subsequent jailing of Anwar for sodomy and corruption, charges which he has denied.
