Academicians and scholars have come out strongly and condemned the malicious videos on the prime minister's wife, Rosmah Mansor, that were posted on the internet.

"Whoever made and uploaded these videos is intending to damage the image of Rosmah by portraying her as a bad person," said Dr Sivamurugan Pandian, who is deputy dean of the School of Social Science in Universiti Sains Malaysia.

anti rosmah mansor video 250609 Responding to the three videos depicting Rosmah as an "evil first lady", Sivamurugan, said that it is possible for those who created the videos to have a political agenda behind their action as Rosmah is the wife of Malaysia's top leader, Najib Abdul Razak.

The three videos depict the first lady as being ungrateful, embarrassed of her origins, overbearing and playing a dominant role in her family.

These videos, which altogether are about 25-minute long, have generated a mixed response from many blogs and online forums.

Political assassination

Sivamurgan, said that "These videos were created to assassinate the character of Rosmah, and by doing so they (the creators) hope that Najib will be (character) assassinated at the same time."

"It is just like killing two birds with one stone, and it is not healthy to attack others like that," Sivamurugan added.

Dr Mohd Agus Yusoff, a political science professor at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, agreed with Sivamurugan.

He said the competition today between political parties is no longer based on policies and performances but on personal matters involving the politicians.

"This is a dirty trend and must be stopped immediately as Malaysia is a democratic and civilised country," Agus said.

"Therefore, I urge the Malaysian government and law enforcers to take action against this kind of ‘political game'," he added.

Why Rosmah?

Sivamurugan pointed out that some Malaysians have a tendency of attacking Rosmah even before she became the first lady as there had been many controversial issues relating to her.

He, however, refused to elaborate further on these "controversial issues".

rosmah mansor najib 250609 02 "Apart from that, Rosmah has played an important role in Najib's life, and she is not merely a symbolic first lady like other PM's wives," Sivamurugan added.

Sivamurugan said that if the creators of these controversial videos really have a political motive, it can be expected that a political war will break out between the leaders of BN and the opposition parties.

"The leaders of BN will defend Rosmah and refute those allegations, and retaliate with attacks against the opposition parties," he said.

Agus, however has a different view and feels that the allegations against Rosmah will end after the original purpose of assassinating her has been achieved.
