Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) leader T Vasanthakumar was not well enough to keep his appointment with Kajang police today, but will get another chance to discuss outstanding matters against him.

His lawyer G Ragumaren met with the police on his behalf at the Kajang police station. He said they were friendly during the 30-minute session.

Also to be discussed were several police reports that have been lodged against him since his release in April.

Ragumaren said the police have received 10-11 reports to date, but he declined to identify the complainants.

“My client and I will now meet the police next week. I have given them my assurance that there will not be any difficulties,” he told Malaysiakini.

Vasanthakumar, along with four other Hindraf leaders were detained under the Internal Security Act in December 2007, following a massive street protest in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 25.

His release was conditional on compliance with 15 points - among others, these restrict his movement and participation in any NGO.

While maintaining that he had little choice but to sign the release papers, Vasanthakumar has maintained that conditions are against Article 10 of the federal constitution, which permits for freedom of movement.

“As the federal constitution is the highest law of the land, my terms of release are null and void,” he had previously said.

Last October, the government banned Hindraf.
