English newspapers

New Straits Times led with Education Ministry director-general Aminuddin Mohd Dom confirming that there would be no extra hours in the teaching of English. Instead, there would be shorter periods for certain subjects to accommodate the teaching of English.

The Star headlined Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak stating that the aim to increase proficiency of English remains and only the method of achieving that has changed with the end of teaching of Science and Maths in English (PPSMI).

Malay newspapers

Utusan Malaysia also led with Najib stating that English subject will not be affected with the termination of the PPSMI policy.

Berita Harian led with Aminuddin's statement on the teaching hours for English.

Tamil newspapers

Two Tamil newspapers - Malaysia Nanban and Makkal Osai front-paged Kapar parliamentarian S Manikavasagam claiming that TV actress K Sujatha was murdered by S Velpaari, the chairperson of Maika Holdings.

He said it in his testimony at the late actor's death inquest.

Tamil Nesan led with Manikavasagam admitting that he was charged with cheating at the age of 18 at the same inquest.

New Straits Times attributed Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's success in the presidential polls to his ability in steering the Indonesian economy.

Berita Harian supported the move to increase the intake of specialist English language teachers in an effort to raise proficiency.

Tamil Nesan highlighted the fact that English would continue to be emphasized.

Makkal Osai pointed out that the government's decision to ease hassle in birth certificates and other documentation would benefit the Indian community as there were many undocumented Malaysian Indians.

Malaysia Nanban stated that ending the PPSMI programme was in line with the wishes of the people.
