Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Musa Hassan has been given a 48-hours ultimatum not to seek another renewal of term of his service or a parliamentary and civil society roundtable for a new IGP to create a safe Malaysia would be convened by the DAP

"I am giving Tan Sri Musa Hassan 48 hours to announce that he will not seek another renewal of term as IGP and must give way to a current serving police officer," said the DAP stalwart.

lim kit siang in manek urai Lim (left) said that the country needed a new IGP with a fresh new vibrant policy to meet the expectations of the people when reforming the police force that would have the support of the Malaysian public at large.

Kit Siang cited two reasons for his demands:

a.Failure of Musa in the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) over the past three year in all the three core police functions; to keep crime low, eradicate corruption and protect human rights.

b. In fact, it is no exaggeration to say that under Musa, Malaysians are even more unsafe from street crimes since Musa became IGP in 5, September, 2006.

"Is there not a single one out of the eight top police officers below the post of IGP who are qualified or competent enough to become the new IGP to provide a new police leadership and culture to roll back the tide of crime in the past five years? " he asked.

Royal Commission required

Lim asked Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to follow the footsteps of his late father, former Prime Minster Tun Abdul Razak, by appointing a new Inspector-General of Police (IGP) who still had four or five years of service, brimming with ideas to plan out and implement police reforms.

Najib should not follow the current practice of appointing senior police officers left with one or two years' service, who are more interested about post-retirement arrangements he said.

NONE Lim also called on Najib to appoint a Royal Commission of Inquiry into Teoh Beng Hock's unusual death plunge from the 14th floor of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters on Thursday.

"Najib must form the Commission for the sake of the credibility of the MACC and Najib's premiership to investigate Teoh's mysterious death."

Lim stressed that Najib has the power to call for the commission without waiting for the cabinet meeting on Wednesday as suggested by his deputy Muhyiddin Yasin last week in Ipoh.

He said many of the BN leaders seem indifferent to Teoh's death and are blowing hot and cold over the matter with conflicting statements on the call for public enquiry into the incident.

He wants MCA president Ong Tee Keat and his team of four ministers and Gerakan President Koh Tsu Koon to take a firm stand in the Cabinet and call for a Royal Commission of Inquiry.

"MCA and Gerakan must make their public stand on the issue otherwise what is the point of them remaining in the Cabinet," Lim asked.
