MIC president S Samy Vellu today said that his party will support the MCA's call for the establishment of a royal commission of inquiry to probe into the death of DAP political aide Teoh Beng Hock.

He said the MIC's sole representative in the cabinet, Human Resources Minister Dr S Subramaniam will be asked to back MCA's proposal at the next cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

Yesterday, MCA president Ong Tee Keat said the party's four representatives in the cabinet would push for the setting up of the commission.

Samy Vellu also expressed his condolence to Teoh's family.

"It was an unfortunate incident and we hope through the formation of the commission, the truth will prevail," he said, adding that people should stop pointing fingers at anyone until investigations by the police have been concluded.

Meanwhile, Subramaniam said he would carry out his party president's instruction.

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said recently the cabinet would discuss the setting up of the commission at its next meting while the police continue with their probe.

Teoh, 30, was found dead on the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam at about 1.30pm on Thursday, in the process of giving his statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The political aide of Ean Yong Hian Wah (DAP Seri Kembangan assemblyperson) was among four people who were called to the state MACC office for questioning in relation with a probe into 12 Pakatan assemblymen for alleged abuse of their allocations.

Gerakan Youth: Truth must prevail

The call for the royal commission was also supported by Gerakan Youth wing chief Lim Si Pin.

gerakan ndc 101008 lim si pin Lim said that the commission, comprising members with good integrity and of high-public standing, must carry out a fair, comprehensive, and professional investigation.

"Teoh's family as well as the public in general needs an assurance from the government to have a fair and transparent investigation on the case. They want the truth to prevail," he said in a statement.

He also said that his youth wing was against any form of selective persecution by enforcement agencies including the MACC.

"For instance, MACC should investigate a complaint, irrespective of whether the complaint is filed against someone in the government or in the opposition," he said.

He also said the government should also look allegations of inappropriate or brutal interrogation techniques used by enforcement agencies.
