Police have busted a seven-member drug trafficking syndicate in Perak, leading to the seizure of 86kg of ganja worth RM220,000.

According to state police chief Zulkifli Abdullah, the joint operation involving anti-narcotics officers from the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters and Perak was carried out on Sunday.

In the 10pm operation, the team had raided a house in Kampung Changat Ibol, Changkat Jering, near Taiping.

NONE "We arrested four youths in the house and recovered 10 sacks of drug substance believed to be ganja by the side of the house. A total of 91 slabs weighing 86kg were recovered," he added.

Some 50 minutes later, the police arrested another three men in Kampung Air Kuning in relation to this case.

Police believe the ganja was brought in from a neighbouring country to be sold in Perak and Kuala Lumpur.

Zulkifli said the seven, aged 26 and 41, hail from Perak, Selangor and Penang.

"Six of the suspects have past records of serious crimes and drug related activities," he added.

Police will investigate the seven under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the death penalty upon conviction.

The suspects have been remanded for seven days until Aug 2.
