Sivakumar gives security the jitters...

Each time Pakatan assembly Speaker V Sivakumar and his Rights and Privileges Committee approach the State Secretariat, security goes into overdrive.

BN officials and the police were involved in a standoff with Sivakumar when he was denied entry into the State Secretariat to hold an inquiry into the May 7 assembly.

Sivakumar wanted to conduct an inquiry into Mentri Besar Zambry and independent Jelapang assemblywoman Hee Yit Foong's alleged misconduct during the assembly.

Despite notifying the state secretariat in advance via phone calls and faxes, he was denied access to the building to hold inquiries on Monday and Thursday.

Today, Sivakumar turned up at the front gate of the State Secretariat at 8.35am, after having given a notice earlier, only to find it locked.

He was told by the security personnel to enter the building through the back gate. Upon reaching the back gate, he found it padlocked, and police standing by.

Additional chains and padlocks

Additional chains were added on to the back gate after Simpang Pulai assemblyman Chan Ming Kai attempted to force it open to gain access to building recently.

Sivakumar informed the police that he wanted to meet Zambry and Hee but was told that both of them were not in the building.

Then Sivakumar ( right ) wanted to enter the building and collect his payslips which he had not collected for the past three months and other stationary for his official use.

The police refused to entertain his requests and later an office assistant came and handed him the pay slips but not the stationery materials that he required for use.

Other Pakatan elected representatives were also refused entry to collect their payslips and other stationery that they needed to use for their respective constituencies.

A Siva Subramaniam the assemblyman for Buntong said he just wanted to collect his July pay slip and stationery like letterheads and envelopes for his correspondence.

The police again refused entry and there was a verbal argument between Siva and the police.

Abuse of the law

Siva asked "Why are they so scared to let me enter the building to collect my personal items when I'm not even in the rights and privileges committee.

"There is an abuse of the law here as even an elected assemblyman cannot enter the State Secretariat to conduct his official duties."

Finally at 10.30am an office assistant gave him his pay slip and letterheads through the locked gates.

But Siva ( left ) was not happy with the attitude of the police and asked: "What am I to do with just the letterheads when I do not have the envelopes to post the letters?"

Then he attempted to climb over the side gate and enter into the compound of the building, but was prevented by police from doing so.

There was a standoff between Siva and the police and finally at 11am, an office assistant came running with the envelopes and handed over them to Siva.

Meanwhile, at 10am Sivakumar, his committee, and three witnesses arrived the gates to enquire about the inquiry.

Finally at 11am, the disappointed team left the gates to a restaurant nearby, much to the relief of the police on guard.

Later, Sivakumar told reporters that the inquiry hearing on Zambry and Hee has been postponed to Wednesday.
