The MCA disciplinary committee will press on with its hearing on the sex video case involving deputy president Dr Chua Soi Lek despite a key complainant having withdrawn his report.

In an unexpected twist, Simpang Renggam MCA division chairman Eng Cheng Guan said yesterday that he had informed the committee of his wishes not to pursue his complaint.

But committee secretary Ivan Chen told Bernama today that chairman Ng Cheng Kiat had instructed that the hearing would proceed as scheduled next Tuesday.

The committee however will not have the testimony from the case’s chief complainant, Eng.

chua soi lek sex tape scandal On May 28 last year, Eng filed a complaint to the disciplinary board accusing the then MCA vice-president of adultery in a sex video scandal and has thus tarnished the party's image.

Eng told Malaysiakini yesterday that his complaint was lodged more that a year ago when former MCA deputy president Chan Kong Choy was the chair of the disciplinary board.

“They didn't take any action then, so the case should have been closed,” he said, adding that Chua's sex scandal was “old history”.

Bernama said that the decision to go ahead with the hearing was because the complaint had been adopted by the party's Presidential Council before being referred to the committee after having established that there was a prima facie case.

“Even if the Presidential Council wants to withdraw the case, it must be with the consent of the DC (disciplinary committee). That is the procedure. Knowing the DC's new chairman's strong character, he is unlikely to change his mind,” said a source.

“He (committee chairman Ng) is a very firm person with his own principles. No one can pressure him to do anything.”

Chua to bring four witnesses

Chua supporters have questioned the disciplinary board's action in reviving the complaint against their leader.

They have accused MCA boss Ong Tee Keat of being the mastermind behind the move, which is allegedly aimed at killing off his rival's political career.

There are strong indications that Chua's faction is planning an emergency general meeting to rally support from the party grassroots.

Sources also said that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is unhappy with the feud within the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition's second biggest party, and has met Ong over the issue on several occasions.

Chua nevertheless said he was prepared to go before the board and will be bringing four witnesses with him.
