There seems to be a phobia in DAP about Barisan Nasional politicians crossing over into Pakatan Rakyat.

The first to voice concern was DAP Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh who bluntly stated that he does not respect people who do so s as it goes against the wishes of the voters who voted them in.

Citing the case of BN Bota assemblyperson Nasarudin Hashim, he said crossovers could backfire.

Nasarudin’s return to Umno and the subsequent three Pakatan reps quitting the coalition to declare themselves as independents led to the downfall of the 10-month Pakatan state government in Perak.

“Pakatan should go for quality rather than quantity. It should screen such crossovers to vet if they are genuine cases who can contribute to the political development of Pakatan,” Sivanesan reasoned.

“There is no point in having has-beens, washouts and politicians who are in the twilight of their lives and cannot give positive contributions to Pakatan,” he argued.

“Now there is speculation that both Mohd Osman Jailu (Changat Jering assemblyperson) and Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi (Behrang) may return to Pakatan.

“Does Pakatan need such turncoats who betrayed the voters trust by jumping ship?” he asked.

No proper vetting

He said Pakatan had not vetted the candidates properly before endorsing them for the March 8 general election and the alliance is now paying the price.

Sivanesan feared that such crossovers may be ‘BN plants’ to destabilise and pollute the politics of Pakatan.

The DAP leader does not want Pakatan to be the dumping ground for politicians who failed to secure positions in their respective BN parties.

However, he expressed respect for former BN ministers Zaid Ibrahim and Chua Jui Meng for their courage to join PKR.

Sivanesan thinks that these two political giants will play a vital role in getting more Malaysians to vote for Pakatan in the next general election.

Recently, a former MIC vice-president S S Subramaniam had also joined Pakatan.
