The Pakatan Rakyat disciplinary committee, if set up, will give its elected representatives an avenue to lodge complaints on any misconduct by members of the three-party coalition, rather

than taking punitive action, said Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

"(The proposal to set up) the committee was mooted at the Pakatan Rakyat seminar today. The committee will be not an avenue for punishment, but rather to discuss (complaints being made) at the Pakatan Rakyat level," he told reporters after presenting letters of appointment to 290 local councillors for the 2009/2010 term at the State Secretariat building in Shah Alam today.

Selangor DAP deputy chairman Tony Pua recently had called on the Pakatan leadership to set up a disciplinary committee to punish Selangor PAS commissioner Hasan Ali for seeking the removal of the DAP's Ronnie Liu as the local government committee chairman.

Hasan had called for Liu's removal for allegedly having interfered in the confiscation of alcoholic drinks from a convenient store in Shah Alam by the local authorities.

Meanwhile, state DAP chairman Ean Yong Hian Wah said the party's stand to form a disciplinary committee was still on though PKR advisor Anwar Ibrahim had said today issues pertaining to the selling of alcoholic drinks in Selangor has been resolved.

"The disciplinary committee should function more in controlling the code of conduct and behaviour of Pakatan elected representatives," he said, adding a clear mechanism should be drafted for the purpose.
