Federal Court judge Gopal Sri Ram today lost his bid to claim the return of law books from his former legal firm.

Judicial Commissioner Harmindar Singh Dhaliwal, in dismissing the suit, said Sri Ram had failed to prove that there was an agreement between him and his former partners that the law library in Sri Ram & Co belonged to him.

gopal sri ram Sri Ram left the firm in 1994 when he became the first lawyer in private practice to be appointed straight to the Court of Appeal and was elevated to the Federal Court in April this year.

There were thousands of law books valued at over RM770,000 then in the library of the firm now, known as Kumar Partnership, whose main partner, C Vijaya Kumar, was named as the first of eight defendants.

Sri Ram, 65, who was represented by Raja Aziz Addruse, was not present in court. He filed the civil suit in 2000.
