Umno Youth has claimed the existence of phantom voters in the Permatang Pasir state constituency which is having a by-election on Aug 25.
Its chief Khairy Jamaluddin said he had received reports on a number of Malay voters whose listed home addresses were actually occupied by Chinese families and vice-versa.
Khairy who had earlier chaired an Umno Youth meeting last night, said he would gather enough evidence and bring up the matter with the Election Commission for action to be taken.
He said since the last general election, there were 1,000 more voters registered in Permatang Pasir which he regarded as abnormal.
The nomination of candidates for the by-election was held this morning with Barisan Nasional's Rohaizat Othman set to face off PAS' Mohd Salleh Man for the state seat.
The Permatang Pasir seat fell vacant following the death of its incumbent Mohd Hamdan Abdul Rahman, from PAS, on July 31.
