Selangor exco member Ronnie Liu today accused the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission of lying over its denial of using ‘Gestapo' tactics during Wong Chuan How's attempted arrest early this week.

"MACC is lying," said the Pandamaran assemblyperson, referring to MACC's statement to the media yesterday on its handling of Wong, who is Liu's special assistant.

On the other hand, Liu said, MACC officers had employed rough tactics in their attempts to arrest Wong, injuring the latter in the process.

The arrest was part of an ongoing investigation into alleged misappropriation of funds allocated for aid programmes in the Sungai Pelek district.

ronnie liu pc 180809 04 Liu also rejected claims by the MACC that Wong waited until the last minute to confirm his appointment to meet with anti-graft investigators on 13 Aug - one day before the interview.

"This is a lie. Wong actually confirmed the appointment on Monday of that week. He agreed to met with MACC officers at 9am the coming Friday at the Sungai Pelek state assemblyperson's service centre," he said.

He further added that they have proof in the form of SMSes on Wong's phone and records of phone calls made between Wong and MACC officials. He also distributed copies of Wong's handwritten statement on the issue.

According to Liu, the anti-graft body also accused Wong of trying to resist arrest and escape its custody.

MACC had said in its statement that Wong would not have been injured if he had followed directives and cooperated in the investigation, adding that its officers did not intentionally injure Wong.

However, Liu rubbished MACC's claims.

In fact, Liu related that Wong had even agreed to go along with anti-graft investigators to MACC headquarters in Putrajaya, asking only to be allowed to make a police report beforehand.

This was despite a Selangor government circular requiring the anti-graft body to only interview state employees during office hours and on state premises with a lawyer present.

Liu added that the police report was to ask for police protection because Wong feared that MACC officers cannot guarantee Wong's safety.

"Why must they arrest him, if he already agreed to go with them?" Liu asked.

More so, Liu is puzzled as to why plainclothes MACC officers - without identifying themselves - pounced on Wong when he was about to leave the service centre to make the agreed upon police report.

"Wong cannot walk now, he has been issued a seven-day medical leave by the hospital" Liu added.

"There is brutality, there is abuse of power," he said, adding that Wong will be taking legal action against the anti-graft body.

Wong was not able to attend the press conference as he was at the Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi district police headquarters giving a statement.

This was in relation to his earlier report to the police after his ‘roughing up' incident.
