Sjmc : I have to agree with the sultan here. Let zakat be retained for its original purpose which is to help poor Muslims. We can certainly tap other sources if the state budget is short of funds.

Ghkok : The article fails to say that Khalid made that proposal because BN is withholding funds from the state government. BN is channeling funds through their own channel in the state.

This is against democracy and the will of the people who have voted in Pakatan as the rightful state government who shall handle the use and disbursement of funds meant for the state.

Chee Hoe Siew : Based on the article, I would agree with the sultan that zakat should not be used for state development. If it has all along been used for helping the poor, it should continue to be used for this purpose.

Selangorian : There appears to be some misunderstanding of MB's proposal . In the last Dewan Negeri Selangor meeting, he proposed establishing Baitulmal for Development under the zakat system, not using zakat fund for development.

Those in the state would know he and the sultan has never been at odds. It's doubtful that sultan was actually referring to MB's proposal.
