M'sia manufacturing sales down 16.3 pct in February
Malaysia's manufacturing sales in February fell 16.3 percent year-on-year to RM22.1 billion, the Department of Statistics said today.
Sales were down 7.5 percent from January.
The department said in a statement that the total number of employees engaged in the manufacturing sector at the end of February was down 8.9 percent year-on-year to 953,828 people, and was down 0.8 percent from the end of January.
A total of RM1.44 billion was paid out as salaries and wages in February, down 7.1 percent from a year earlier and down 2.7 percent compared to January.
For the first two months of the year, manufacturing sales totalled RM46 billion, down 12.7 percent from the same period a year earlier, while total salaries and wages paid declined 5.2 percent to RM2.93 billion.
