Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak today sent a letter to Kedah sultan Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah requesting that Lunas state assemblyman Mohd Radzhi Salleh be removed from his position as a state execuive councillor.
Azizan said a letter from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) asking for Radzhi's services be terminated, was also attached to his letter.
"His Highness accepted my letter. We wait for his decision. As long as he does not make a decision Radzhi is still an exco," said Azizan.
Yesterday, Radzhi announced he was quitting PKR and declared himself an independent.
He said he would continue to hold the state's Tourism, Community Development and Human Resources Committee portfolio.
According to Azizan ( right ), Sultan Abdul Halim understood the matter after he told him that Radzhi was no longer a PKR member and was not qualified to be an executive councillor on the PKR quota.
"My meeting with His Highness was pleasant. I hope His Highness will
consider the request, but I do not know when he will make a decision," he said.
Azizan said Radzhi's replacement as executive councillor will only be
discussed by PKR after the sultan had made a decision.
'We don't want him'
Meanwhile, PAS today described Radzhi's decision to quit PKR as a welcome clean-up process in the opposition.
Saying that Radzhi was a burden to Pakatan, PAS vice-president
Mahfuz Omar said the party was not surprised by his move.
"We don't want to be burdened by him," he said.
Radzhi (

) quit PKR citing loss of confidence in the party's leadership.
Kedah PKR is now left with only four assemblymen, PAS (16), Barisan Nasional (14) and one each for DAP and an independant.
Mahfuz said Radzhi should resign as assemblyman as it was clear
that the voters in Lunas wanted a PKR leader.
He refuted a suggestion that Radzhi's decision would affect PAS candidate Mohd Salleh Man's chances in Permatang Pasir against BN's Rohaizat Othman in tomorrow's by-election.
