Selangor Keadilan youth movement, better known by its Malay acronym AMK, today urged authorities to swiftly investigate the contents of the ‘mystery letter' which surfaced during the Teoh Beng Hock inquest.

penang exco assistant submit petition to macc for teoh death 200709 asking justice for teoh According to a Selangor AMK statement, "the allegations in the letter are very serious because it involves prominent personalities as well as relevant questions and details that pertain to the Teoh Beng Hock case."

"Only a thorough investigation of the allegations contained in the document shall restore the faith of the public and the international community in the image and credibility of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)," concluded the movement.

In emailed statement to the media, the movement's information chief Mohd Ezli Mashut called upon the royal commission (formed to investigate the investigative practices of MACC) to be given the lead in this important task. This is to ensure an independent investigation is conducted and involves all the individuals named in the ‘mystery letter'.

Independent investigation needed

Mohd Ezli further added that an independent investigation is paramount as MACC's integrity and credibility has been called into question of late.

The anti-graft body was the subject of negative public opinion since the body of political secretary Teoh Beng Hock was found on a balcony at a building housing the commission's Selangor headquarters. Teoh was found dead after an ‘interview' with MACC at the premises the night before.

But this is only if the authorities can guarantee the safety of those involved.

According to Mohd Ezli, if the MACC and a royal commission were to throughly investigate the allegations, the public will begin to rebuild it's trust in the anti-corruption watchdog.

The youth movement also hoped that the royal commission will take the investigation into the letter seriously and take stern action if the allegations are proven to be true.

Selangor AMK stressed that "institutions crucial to the nation cannot be the instruments of an unscrupulous few for their narrow political gains."
