The police expect to wrap up their probe into the controversial cow-head protest and resubmit the investigation papers to Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail within the next 48 hours.

NONE "Just give us a day or two (to complete the task) and resubmit the papers," Selangor police chief Khalid Abu Bakar told Malaysiakini tonight.

Yesterday, Khalid said the AG ordered the police to "record further statements from some of the witnesses" after the latter was briefed on the findings.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan told reporters yesterday that the main culprits behind the protest have been identified.

He also denied that the police were not serious in handling the matter.

Previously, Khalid said that statements have been recorded from more than 60 individuals by a special team set up to probe the incident.

The case is being investigated under the Sedition Act.

Controversial protest

Last Friday, residents of Section 23 in Shah Alam made international news when they paraded a severed cow's head on the city streets to protest the proposal to relocate a Hindu temple to their neighbourhood.

NONE Some of the protesters were also seen spitting and stepping on the cow's head. The cow is considered sacred by Hindus.

The organiser however denied that the act was meant to belittle the Hindu religion or to stoke religious tension.

The protest drew flak from various quarters, including both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat politicians.
