Court throws out RM218 mil suit against Umno

Kengan : There's no doubt the materials were delivered and used by Umno for their election campaigns. So why is Umno shirking responsibility? The fact that Umno took delivery is evidence of a contract. Well, let this be a lesson to any company which wants to do business with the devil. Cash first or cry later.

1419 Group : I wonder if Pakatan Rakyat owes the money to material supplier, what would be the outcome? Anyone in the legal profession could advise?

Fairnessforall : Why am I not surprised? Umno can never lose any case against them as all the judges who rule on Umno and BN cases are those who have been bought and have no integrity.

P Dev Anand Pillai : So it means that the party of elites need not pay any contractor that it employs. To all the potential contractors out there, please ensure that you have the backing of some rich and powerful warlord or contract lord before you venture into doing business with the elites. Please also make sure that the cable that you have is connected to the right supply line so that your bills are duly paid or else it be another case like Elegant Advisory's.

What we need now is the call for reformasi in the judiciary; it has become a club of supporters all waiting for the right appointments to do their bidding. The new generation judiciary has become another compliant government department instead of an independent organ of state. The only hope is in the hands of the people who have to pick the pencil and mark at the right box so that change can be effected.

Lim Chong Leong : Is anyone surprised that a suit against the Maha Umno is struck out even before its merits are heard?

Cow-head videos: MCMC comes a-calling again

Md Imraz Muhammed Ikhbal : Under the Act, any individual found guilty of publishing content "which is indecent, obscene, false, menacing, or offensive in character with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any person" is liable to a fine of up to RM50,000 or a jail sentence.

Let's dissect and analyse the sentence of the Act. Indeed the contents of the videos are offensive, but the prosecution also demands that the intention of publishing them, be to either annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any person. There is undisputedly no element of abuse, threat or harassment whatsoever in this case.

MCMC would perhaps seek to incriminate Malaysiakini on the premise of "annoyance". If indeed the public is annoyed after having viewed the videos, then let it be known that the annoyance is not by the act of publishing itself but instead the acts and words of the offenders as well as the speech of the home minister.

Malaysiakini is merely reporting as professional journalists the offensive and annoying events that actually transpired.

Pm Moey : Kudos to Malaysiakini for staying true in telling and showing the truth. Do not give in to the MCMC for they are tools of Umno, who for obvious reasons do not want others to see their true colours. The video did not annoy or offend me one bit, and I am sure it applies for all right-minded Malaysians.

The people who should be ashamed of themselves would be the demonstrators, Kerismuddin and those in Umno that try to support these acts of stupidity to create racial discord.

Paul Kam : So the dude that brandished a keris that was photographed and then published in almost every paper didn't get the publishers in trouble even though the picture was "indecent, obscene, false, menacing, or offensive in character with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any person". Maybe it wasn't false...

Bob : MCMC stop wasting taxpayers' money. Your job is not to over up Umno's misdeeds. All misdeeds should be exposed under broad daylight and not swept under the carpet.

MACC's application to expunge testimony rejected

James Dean : If the torture evidence is true then those who smeared the image of the MACC is none other then the MACC officers themselves. If it turned out to be untrue then why worry? Malaysians are not as gullible as the MACC lawyer would like to think. We know what is true and what false.

Really, if MACC wants to redeem itself then this evidence of torture can be used to get the rogue officers out unless torture is condone by their bosses and is their standard operating procedure.

Gk: I wonder why all parties involved in the inquest cannot let the coroners complete the task without interference of the other courts. But the fact is that the current proceedings are not even a trial, but an inquest to find the facts leading to why a young man under custody of MACC ended up dead. Guilty or not guilty is not the question as no one is charged here. Why panic then? I am puzzled.

Doc : "The purpose of his testimony is to smear and tarnish the image of MACC," said Manoj. It's safe to assume that MACC's image has already been tarnished. You don't really need outsiders to tarnish its image. MACC is doing a fantastic job tarnishing its own image all on its own. Now the rakyat is more interested on what else is the MACC up to.
