After probing Malaysiakini over the cow-head protest videos, MCMC is now turning its guns on a blogger. Chinese blog, 'Tomyam Gossip', claimed to have received a warning letter from MCMC over its comment on Teoh Beng Hock's death.

NONE The blogger, believed to be Tan Teck Chin (left) , 42, posted an email dated Sept 9 from MCMC which states that his posting ‘ Teoh Beng Hock's Death (3): Malaysia Bodoh ' in his blog on July 25 contains offensive content.

The email by Muhammad Azmeal Ali from MCMC Content Regulation Department, Monitoring and Enforcement Division also pointed out that MCMC is the administrator of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

azlan Section 211 of the CMA 1998 (Act 588) stipulates that the provision of indecent, obscene, false, menacing or offensive content with the intention to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any person is deemed wrongful.

Upon conviction, the content provider shall be liable to a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or an imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or both, and shall also be liable to a further fine of RM1,000 for every day or part of a day during which the offence is continued after conviction.

The email also "reminded" Tan that he should be mindful of the abovementioned provision in ensuring that the content of his blog does not contravene the required legal stipulation.

In Tan's article, he rebutted claims that Teoh Beng Hock possessed evidence of corruption in the Selangor Pakatan government. He describes this theory as "foolish and that only foolish people and MACC will believe this".

NONE In conclusion, he said the popular slogan ‘Malaysia Boleh' shoule be changed to ‘Malaysia Bodoh'.

When contacted at 5.30pm this afternoon, Tan confirmed receiving the email but vowed that it will not stop him from blogging further.

"No, this is my writing style. I will write as usual. I might even become more radical."

Tan also denied that his article is offensive stating that, "it's a very personal and subjective matter. Different people have different views on it".

Financial manager for magazine

According to the introduction in his blog, Tan has magazine editing experiences and is currently working as a financial manager for a local magazine.

Tan stated in his blog that receiving the MCMC email is like receiving a call from the Nobel prize foundation, "officially acknowledging my contribution".

Tan who refused to confirm his real name said that he didn't reply to MCMC's email as he is afraid that they may know his exact location.

He said he did not contact MCMC for "obvious reasons".

Malaysiakini tried unsuccessfully to contact MCMC today for confirmation and further comments.
