Sunshine and good weather are set to mark the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations in the country, says the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

Based on the department's analysis, spokesman Ambun Didang said it was able to conclude there would not be any rain during the festive week beginning this weekend.

"This is a dry monsoon season from the south-west, which means, there will not be any rain throughout the country," he said when contacted here today.

However, he said, there could be occasional rain in the evening in the west coast of peninsular Malaysia, from Perlis to southern Johor.

Similar weather condition could be expected in Sarawak's western region, such as Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong and Sabah's interior areas including Sandakan and the west coast of the state.

Ambun said the forecast was based on the latest data analysis received but added that the weather could change.

Meanwhile, a spokesman of the Federal Territory Drainage and Irrigation Department said the department was always alert, in the event of flash floods in the city.

Flood-prone areas include Jalan Tun Perak, Jamek Mosque, and areas around the Putra World Trade Centre, Sentul, Gombak and Batu Caves.
