The MCA extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to solve a crisis plaguing the party following the sacking of MCA deputy president Dr Chua Soi Lek will be held at 10am on Oct 10.

MCA secretary-general Wong Foon Meng told a press conference at the party's headquarters today that the ‘three 10s’ EGM would be held at Dewan San Choon in Wisma MCA, Jalan Ampang.

The date was decided after making much deliberations and discussions from various perspectives and taking into consideration the best interest of the party and all its members, he said.

Wong said following a coordination meeting on Sept 14, which was attended by the representatives of the interested parties, a unanimous decision was made to respect the grassroot views to hold only one EGM and use it as a democratic channel to resolve party matters.

Wong said he had sent out the EGM notice to all the party's 2,377 central delegates before 5pm today.

"I hope that all the 2,377 central delegates will attend the EGM and make a wise decision as to the future of the party," he said.

Five resolutions

Wong also said the Bagan Pinang state by-election in Negeri Sembilan to be held on Oct 11 was also a factor in setting Oct 10 as the EGM date.

azlan When asked on the consequences should any or all of the five resolutions proposed by Chua supporters were passed at the EGM, Wong said he left it to the central delegates to make a wise decision.

On Aug 26, under the recommendation of MCA's disciplinary committee, the party's presidential council collectively decided to sack Chua from the party for his involvement in a DVD sex scandal.

Chua's 14 days appeal period expires today after he acknowledged receiving the expulsion notice on Sept 2.

Wong, when contacted at 5.30pm, said Chua had not filed an appeal.
