Don't balik kampung if you are sick
Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai has advised the kampung-bound revellers to exercise caution against Influenza A (H1N1) as the country braces for the possible second wave of the pandemic.
Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai has advised the kampung-bound revellers to exercise caution against Influenza A (H1N1) as the country braces for the possible second wave of the pandemic.
"I am confident of our detection and treatment system for the people. However, I advise them to be more careful and not suppress whatever sickness," he said, adding that if they had high fever for more than 48 hours, they should seek medical treatment.
Liow told this to reporters after opening the National A (H1N1) Influenza Pandemic Conference 2009 recently.
The day-long event was jointly organised by the ministry, Malaysian Medical Association and the Federation of Private Medical Practitioners Associations of Malaysia.
Liow had expressed concern that the exodus of revellers during the 'balik kampung' season might cause a sharp rise in infections.
Do not hug and kiss
In another development, Health Director-General Dr Mohd Ismail Merican advised those returning to their hometowns for Aidilfitri to bring along their H1N1 kit that have a facemask, a packet of tissues and a small bottle of hand sanitizers.
He advised the people to carry a H1N1 kit when they go shopping, travelling, as well as visiting friends and relatives.
Health authorities have also advised those with flu-like illness and in high-risk groups to wear face masks in public places.
The other pointers are:
- If you are sick and need to balik kampung, do not hug and kiss, particularly your aged parents, elderly people, children below two years old and those in high-risk groups as they could get infected and suffer complications.
- Postpone your visits to homes of relatives and friends and avoid kenduri and open house if you are sick.
