All quarters including the media have been urged to respect the decision of part-time model Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarnor, who had refused to appeal against caning for drinking beer.

The 32-year-old woman won a surprise reprieve when the Kuantan Syariah High Court delayed her punishment after the fasting month of Ramadan.

NONE Kartika, who is a nurse by profession, was fined RM5,000 and ordered to be given six strokes of the rotan by the Kuantan Syariah High Court on July 20 after pleading guilty to drinking beer at a hotel in Kuantan on July 11 last year.

Her lawyer, Adham Jamalullail Ibrahim said the case should enhance the syariah court administration and the enforcement of Islamic laws in the country.

"I am asking political parties not to meddle in the issue as it involved only the syarie judicial institution in Pahang," he told reporters at an Aidilfitri open house hosted by Kartika in Kampung Jawang, Sungai Siput today.

Adham Jamalullail said he would stop any attempts to stop the sentencing and actions that could further aggravate the situation.

On the date of the sentencing, he said he had yet to be informed by the Kuantan Syariah High Court.

Adham Jamalullail is one of five lawyers from Adham and Associates appointed by Kartika to preserve her privacy and that of her family.

The others are Marlina Amir Hamzah, Siti Razasah Abd Razak, Zainul Rijal Abu

Bakar and Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdullah.

Meanwhile, Kartika said she left it to her lawyers to advise her on the development of the case.

On Saturday Sisters in Islam filed an application to revise a stay of execution in Kartika's case at the Syariah High Court.
