The High Court today ordered the police to produce DNA specimens and items from a deceased car theft suspect, A Kugan, seized from a University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) forensic pathologist to a Magistrate's Court by Oct 9.

a kugan murdered assaulted indian youth Judicial commissioner Yeoh Wee Siam said the case would be referred back to the Magistrate's Court to decide whether the specimens and samples seized on April 6 would be returned to UMMC or remain in police custody pending a related trial at the Sessions Court.

Yeoh, however, dismissed an application by Kugan's mother, N Indra, to revise the April 6 decision by the Magistrate's Court to issue a search warrant to the police for the items.

Yeoh said the search warrant was valid and proper but the police had failed to produce all the seized items before the Magistrate's Court after the raid at UMMC.

Police to comply

Deputy public prosecutor Noorin Badaruddin, who represented the police, told the High Court the police would comply with today's order.

Kugan, 22, was detained by police on Jan 15 this year for alleged car theft but died several days later while still in police custody.

Yesterday, a policeman from the USJ Subang police station claimed trial at the Sessions Court here on two counts of causing grievous hurt to Kugan.
