PAS today provided three photographs to prove that Umno supreme council member Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim had allegedly lied about being assaulted by supporters of the opposition party.
Azeez, who is currently warded at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for soft tissue injury, claimed that he was punched on Saturday, during nomination for the Bagan Pinang by-election in Negeri Sembilan.
He has since lodged a police report on the incident, which the opposition claimed is fabricated while Barisan Nasional leaders alleged shows their rivals underhand tactics.
However, PAS information chief Idris Ahmad said the photographs confirmed that Azeez was lying about the assault.
He pointed out that the Umno leader had deliberately passed through the PAS supporters’ area despite being cautioned by the police.
Azeez must apologise
"As he was passing through, a PAS supporter tapped on his shoulder (

), and did not punch him as claimed. The photo shows that Azeez just smiled and kept walking," he said in a statement.
In view of this, Idris said PAS wants the Umno leader to apologise to the people of Bagan Pinang and the entire nation for telling a lie.
"PAS is certain that the people know that his act was simply to garner sympathy votes. The people are far more intelligent than BN leaders," he added.
Yesterday, PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub also
accused
Azeez of fabricating the story to seek cheap publicity.
Meanwhile, Azeez said he was rushed to the hospital after he vomited and fainted at his house in Subang Jaya.
"After the Maghrib prayers, I felt like fainting, I threw up and passed out. I was in pain and my blood pressure shot up to 65/95. It was never that high before," he had said.
