Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim has challenged Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin to an open debate on who is the real traitor of the Malay race.

penanti pkr final pc 300509 saifuddin According to PKR election strategist Saifuddin Nasution, the challenge was conveyed to Muhyiddin's office in Putrajaya via a formal letter yesterday.

"We hope Muhyiddin won't just depend on the government-controlled media to attack us. Let Bagan Pinang be the forum to discuss this topic," said Saifuddin.

Saifuddin was among the speakers at a press conference held at the PAS Bagan Pinang by-elections operations centre this morning.

This is the second time Anwar is challenging Muhyiddin to debate on the same topic since the Permatang Pasir by-election in August.

Back then, Muhyiddin accused Anwar, a former Umno deputy president, of selling out Malay rights to please the non-Malays.

PKR welcomes KJ's police report

In another development, Saifuddin welcomed Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin's threat to lodge a police report against Anwar for allegedly amassing funds through dubious means.

"Our position is to agree with Khairy, based on the principle that political leaders must be whiter than white... I appeal to the Umno Youth chief to state the date, time and venue to lodge the report, because I want to accompany him," he said.

NONE Yesterday, Khairy made the threat based on accusations by Anwar's former confidant KS Nallakaruppan and former Bank Negara assistant governor Abdul Murad Khalid in 1999.

On this note, Saifuddin said Umno Youth should be equally vigilant about abuses by government officials and Barisan Nasional leaders.

"I would also like to suggest that they lodge a report against Khairy on how he bought ECM-Libra shares worth millions of ringgit while he was the son-in-law of the (former) prime minister," he added.

He said the new Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 law specifically allows action to be taken against the "son-in-law" of a government official.

"I remember (the inclusion of 'son-in-law') vividly because I took part in the debates (on the bill in Parliament)," added Saifuddin, who is Machap MP.
