The Election Commission has asked tourists and supporters of political parties to stay away from Port Dickson on Sunday so as not to cause traffic congestion during polling for the Bagan Pinang state by-election in Negri Sembilan.

EC chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said traffic congestion would make it difficult for voters to get to polling stations to exercise their right.

Leaders of political parties should convey this message to their party members and supporters, he told reporters today.

The Bagan Pinang by-election is a straight fight between Mohd Isa Samad of the Barisan Nasional (BN) and Zulkefly Mohamad Omar of PAS. The seat fell vacant following the death of BN assemblyperson Azman Mohammad Noor on Sept 4.

He said the police had given the assurance that they would ensure the security of voters.

On a claim by PAS that Umno Youth members had attacked its party workers, Abdul Aziz said the EC had not received any official report on the matter.

"I learnt about it through the mass media and SMS messages from opposition political parties," he added.
