English newspapers

New Straits Times led with the prime minister's call for MCA to make a quick decision on party leadership.

The Star reported MCA central committee's call for Ong Tee Keat to refrain from making any decision until not make a decision until it meets on Thursday.

Both newspapers also gave prominence to Mohd Isa Samad's landslide victory and his feat in doubling the majority at the Bagan Pinang, Negri Sembilan by-election yesterday.

Malay newspapers

Both Berita Harian and Utusan Malaysia led with Isa Samad's overwhelming win in Bagan Pinang.

Also reported was the prime minister's call for MCA to make a swift and wise decision on the party leadership following Saturday's EGM, keeping in mind the interest of the party and the coalition.

Tamil Newspapers

Both Makkal Osai and Malaysia Nanban gave banner headline treatment to Isa Samad's triumph as Bagan Pinang as reflecting the return of Indian votes to the BN.

Tamil Nesan led with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak confirming that the Malaysian Makkal Sakthi Party (MMSP) would not be admitted to the Barisan Nasional coalition to replace the MIC.

New Straits Times foresees the possibility of problems emerging from amendments made to the Umno constitution, and the subsequent devolution of power. But maintained that adjustments are necessary to ensure that the party is acceptable not just to Malays but to all.

Berita Harian asserted that the MCA EGM results show that there is no place for leaders who do not put party interests first. All actions taken now must be made in the context of BN's performance in the next general elections.

Utusan Malaysia highlighted the fact that the prime minister has made good his promise to deliver low cost housing to the poor. The urban poor benefitting from this scheme are therefore urged to remember how the government had helped them out.

Makkal Osai wanted to know if the MMSP has worked out a plan on how it is going to achieve its objectives.

Malaysia Nanban opined that Umno's upcoming party constitution amendment is an example for others to follow.
