Transparency International Malaysia (TI-Malaysia) will convene an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) soon to discuss problems arising from the release of its Global Corruption Report 2009.

TI-Malaysia acting president Mohamed Iqbal said that at a meeting held yesterday, its executive council agreed to the EGM.

This latest development in TI-M, follows the released of the Global Corruption Report on Sept 23, in which its then president, Paul Low ( right ), had quoted the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) crisis as the biggest scandal this year.

He had said the controversy would be a positive challenge to ensure more transparency in the country.

Threat to sue TI-M

Following the controversy arising from the release of the report, Low resigned and Mohamed was appointed acting president.

Certain parties in the report, including PKFZ's turnkey developer Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Tiong King Sing also publicly stated he was considering legal action against TI-M, while a TI-M exco member, Robert Phang, also questioned the accuracy of the report.

"The entire process within TI-Malaysia has taken place without the benefit of the matter being brought for the purview and scrutiny of the exco of TI-Malaysia," said Mohamed.
