The Civil Sessions Court today set Oct 26 to decide on an application by the prosecution to admit as evidence an article downloaded from the Internet in the sedition trial of lawyer P Uthayakumar.

Judge Sabariah Othman fixed the date after hearing submissions from defence counsel N Surendran, who represented Uthayakumar, and deputy public prosecutor Noorin Badaruddin.

Noorin said she would submit the article, which was downloaded from the Internet by Bukit Aman deputy management director (training) DCP Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, who is also the complainant in the case.

She said the article was relevant to the case and could be submitted as a supporting evidence.

‘Indian boy killed by police’

However, Surendran objected to it on the grounds that the contents in the article, downloaded from the www.policewatchmalaysia.com, could not be verified.

NONE The article contained a picture of a man wearing a T-shirt written with "Indian boy killed by police and Malaysia gangster".

Uthayakumar ( right ), 48, is charged with publishing a seditious letter on a website, an offence which carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or a maximum three years’ jail, or both.

The letter, dated Nov 15, was from the Hindu-based activist group, Hindraf, and was addressed to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown at No 10, Downing Street, London
