A daughter of a politician who was called to the police station to record her statement on the recent theft of jewellery, worth RM25,000, was a witness in the investigation, Kuala Lumpur Crime Investigation Department chief Ku Chin Wah said today.

He said the 18-year-old girl's statement was recorded at the Cheras police station a few days ago and following investigations found that she was not involved in the theft.

"She is only a witness to help police investigation in the case which involve two of her college friends," he told reporters at the Sentul police Hari Raya celebration here.

Ku was commenting on a report in by Malay Mail which stated that a daughter of a politician and two of her friends were detained for alleged involvement in a theft of jewellery, worth RM25,000, reported in Cheras last month.

Meanwhile, on a police constable who was seriously injured when slashed on the head at the car park of the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on Tuesday, Ku said police had yet to record his statement and that the policeman was still in hospital and reported in stable condition.
