Malay newspapers

Berita Harian led with a report that the National Language Act 1963 and Education Act 1996 may be amended to empower Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka to fine public sector agencies for the wrong usage of Bahasa Malaysia.

It also reported that three people, including an American, died from burns when their car caught fire following an accident in Kota Bahru

Utusan Malaysia reported that MTUC urged the EPF to increase employee contribution to 11 percent, following the reported economic recovery.

The newspaper also headlined the report of Dr Mahathir being disappointed with the level of obesity in Malaysia.

Tamil newspapers

Among the stories carried by Makkal Osai included the decision by MIC's disciplinary council to investigate three party members for questioning the conduct of the recent party polls. The three are linked to former deputy president S Subramaniam who lost in his bid to challenge incumbent deputy chief G Palanivel.

In Malaysia Nanban , Suhakam commissioner N Sivasubramaniam has urged the immigration authorities to immediately look into the complaints of abuse made by Sri Lankan detainees at the Pontian immigration depot. About 108 Sri Lankan detainees have been on a hunger strike since last week.

Tamil Nesan led with MIC's successful Deepavali open house which attracted more than 10,000 visitors, including Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

New Straits Times focused the emerging culture of dissent, as evident in the US through dissatisfaction with Obama. We should therefore be wary of this taking root in Malaysia.

Berita Harian and Utusan noted that other BN components should emulate Umno, by undertaking similar transformations, to ensure the continued relevancy of their parties.

Further, all parties should curb any ill-feelings towards other races and understand each other's roles in maintaining harmony.
