Pakatan Rakyat MP Tony Pua has urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the abuse of power and misappropriation of funds by BN members of parliament and Umno division chiefs.

But in Pakatan-run states, the funds are managed by the Implementation and Coordination Unit under the Finance Ministry through the local district office.

The money is to be used for public amenities maintenance programmes, basic infrastructure projects and rural development projects.

According to Pua, the report revealed that the auditor-general had found problems in at least 10 projects out of the 96 site visits conducted.

For example, three projects - the construction of an indoor stadium at RM134,463, a community hall at RM130,313 and a recreational park at RM135,653 in Taman Danau Desa, Seputeh - were awarded to three contractors in 2007.

However, according to the audit report, the contractors built a community hall that cost RM400,429, while the other two projects were neglected in the parliamentary constituency which is now under DAP's Teresa Kok.

Funds controlled by Umno division heads

Similarly, a community hall was built in Bandar Tun Razak at a cost of RM98,825.

Pua said:"The hall is now under-utilised. In the report, the reason given was that the it was utilised during the reappointment of the division's Umno chief.

"The cases highlighted in the audit report clearly shows abuse of power and misappropriation of federal funds which are controlled by Umno division heads who have no position whatsoever in the government."

Moreover, the audit investigation also revealed other discrepancies such as change of construction scope without authorisation, delayed projects and projects that cost more than its estimate and allocation.

"We want the MACC to investigate the audit report which has provided strong evidence on the cases that involved hundreds and thousands of ringgit and not waste time on their fishing expedition on opposition leaders," he added.
