Residents of a village located in Teluk Kemang, Seremban, are claiming that they have been victimised by the BN-run state government for campaigning for the opposition in last year's general election.

P Uthayakumaran, 48, a villager from Kampung Air Kuning, told Malaysiakini that the contractor assigned to resurface the main road in their village, refused carry out the work on the section leading to his and three other houses.

The roadworks, which began three days ago was completed today, and according to Uthayakumaran, the contractor told him that the District Office did not allocate enough funds to finish the job which was supposed to have been carried out soon after the last GE.

Campaigned for the opposition

"He told us there was not enough funds to complete the whole road... but I think that they were reluctant to complete the sections leading our houses because we campaigned for the opposition," he claimed.

He added that three of his neighbours campaigned for the opposition during the election.

The district office, however, could not be contacted for clarification.

A check with the contractor, who did not want to be named, also confirmed that the they were not given enough resources and therefore had to make use of whatever supplies that they were given to get the job done.

"I'm just the contractor and I was told to do the job... anything else you have to ask the district office," he said.

Uthayakumaran and his neighbours had campaigned for PKR's secretary-general Kamarul Baharin Abbas, who beat MIC candidate S Sothinathan, in the parliamentary constituency by 2,804 votes last year.
