MIC president S Samy Vellu today ordered a re-evaluation of the party's 3,600 branches in a bid to resuscitate the weaker ones, and revived the presidential council as part of the transformation process.

With 800 new branches awaiting approval from the Registrar of Societies, he said, the re-evaluation exercise would be done by technical experts using the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) starting early next year.

There had been complaints that some branches were not active and even the branch leaders were not carrying out their duties diligently, he told reporters after chairing the party's monthly Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting at the MIC headquarters.

"There is a need to reconnect, re-energize, reinvent these branch leaders so that they will become closer to the people and resolve their problems through government intervention," he said.

Consultative meeting planned

On the presidential council, Samy Vellu said it would be tasked to come up with a master plan for the Indian community to be implemented before 2013.

mic youth division launch pc 040908 samy vellu 01 It would meet twice a month and be chaired by him, with MIC deputy president G Palanivel, Human Resources Minister and vice-president Dr S Subramaniam, and all MIC elected representatives, state executive councillors and senators as members.

Samy Vellu said the council's objective was to create an efficient approach in recording the problems of the community and forward them to the government for action through the party's elected representatives.

He also said that the MIC would hold a consultative meeting on the 10 th Malaysia Plan (10MP) with non-governmental organisations, academicians, social activists and youth organisations on the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) on Nov 5 to get their feedback for recommendations for the Indian Community under the plan.

A workshop on ‘Sense of Urgency' would also be held for its 150 divisional leaders on Nov 15 to train them on work culture and how to cope in a crisis.
