The MCA's unity plan must be revealed in full to the central committee (CC), declared its youth chief Wee Ka Siong today .

NONE Wee, who is known for his differences with party president Ong Tee Kiat, said the CC has the right to know the plan's full content.

However, he stressed that CC members have no problem with the plan "provided we know the contents," adding that no one in the right frame of mind would say no if that was done.

"I cannot give you a blank paper and say to you that this is the unity plan unless you tell me what are the contents of the so-called unity plan.

"We are not here to kill each other, we want to unite all members but unity should not be confined to one or two members it should include all 930,000 members," he told reporters at Parliament.

Wee, however, said that he was not disappointed with Ong's remarks as "everyone is entitled to his view.

"So I respect his view but we have to be responsible ...I think CC is the highest executive body in the party and should be given the opportunity to express their views at this forum," he said.

Yesterday, Ong stressed that he did not need the CC's permission to reveal the content of the unity plan, which had the blessings of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to avoid "continuous in-fighting".

His statement came after some party officials led by newly-elected deputy president, Liow Tiong Lai said that they were not consulted about the plan that was announced last week.

MCA belongs to everybody

According to Wee, the unity plan should be revealed as MCA "belongs to everybody so we must have collective leadership".

He also questioned the point of electing the various office bearers if they were not included in the discussion of the plan.

"(Otherwise) You can have only one president then who can function as a party and sole representative of the party," he said.

chua soi lek The CC members had previously said the president should realise that the recent extraordinary general meeting (EGM)'s vote of no-confidence against him should be taken into consideration, at the same time referred to Ong's earlier pledge to resign if he lost.

Besides approving a no-confidence motion against Ong, the delegates also refused to reinstate Dr Chua Soi Lek (right) as deputy president.

The party had been plagued by one crisis after another since Ong sacked Chua, which many believed was due to Ong's feeling his position is threatened by the latter.

Meanwhile, Chua has not made any comments on the secretive unity plan.

However, he had sought clarification from the Registrar of Societies on whether he could reinstated as party deputy president.

Ong, on the other hand, is firm about continuing to be MCA president.
