The MCA Youth central committee (CC) meeting tomorrow is expected to be fiery as it is likely to discuss whether or not to support Youth chief Wee Ka Siong's call for a fresh party election.

Wee was among the group of 16 party CC members - including vice-president Tan Kok Hon and Wanita chief Chew Mei Fun - who requisitioned the party to hold an EGM in order to call for a fresh party election.

wee ka siong mca pc 300708 03 They also offered to resign as CC members in order to secure the support of two-thirds of the CC members to join them in their bid to force a fresh election as, under the party constitution, if two-thirds of the CC members resign, a fresh party election has to be held.

Wee, when contacted, said he would not stop anybody from discussing the matter as the CC members had the right to discuss any matter related to the party and current issues.

"Whatever needs to be discussed, will be discussed. It is the right of the CC members. I will not impose any barrier for this subject to be brought up for discussion," he said.

It would be keenly watched if the movement will support Wee and 15 other party CC members in their effort to have a fresh election as there is talk that not all the Youth CC members are supportive of the move.

‘Anybody wants to jump, can jump’

Among them are Penang MCA Youth chief Eng Hiap Boon who said he was against any move for the movement to support such an attempt as it was against the unity plan.

"I don't know about the others but, definitely, I will not support any move against the unity plan," he said.

Selangor MCA Youth chief Dr Kow Cheong Wei said the movement should not waste time discussing whether it should support a fresh election or not as the matter only involved the parent body and not the youth movement.

"I don't know whether they will discuss it. As far as I know, it is not on the written agenda but members can bring up any issue, if necessary, although it may not be on the agenda for discussion.

"For me, if they are going to discuss it, I would say don't waste time. The boat will still be sailing. Anybody wants to jump, can jump," he said when contacted.

Federal Territory MCA Youth chief Chew Lian Keng, when contacted, was also unsure if the call for an EGM would be brought up for discussion but he did not foresee any problem if the youth CC members wanted to deliberate on the matter.
