MCA Youth stood solidly behind their chief Wee Ka Siong, urging president Ong Tee Keat to reveal his unity plan and also respect the Oct 10 EGM result.

The MCA Youth central committee, at a meeting today, passed a resolution calling on president Ong Tee Keat to be open about his unity plan and respect the EGM resolutions

"No one should go against the Oct 10 resolutions, its decisions are clear and conclusive," said Wee ( below ).

mca youth meeting 301009 wee ka siong MCA Youth's decision echoed calls made by newly-appointed deputy president Liow Tiong Lai and 14 other CC members on Oct 27.

On Oct 10, two resolutions were passed - first a no-confidence vote against Ong and second - to reinstate former deputy president Chua Soi Lek's party membership.

Another resolution, to reinstate Chua as deputy president, however, failed to get the support of the delegates.

Today's decision by the MCA youth put paid to speculation that Wee, who is seen as backing Liow against Ong in the new party power struggle, did not have youth support.

Wee said at a press conference after the CC meeting that MCA Youth was unanimous in their support for his leadership when they passed the resolution.

He urged Ong to reveal details of the unity plan, without setting a deadline for the president.

Wee: EGM to topple me are just rumours

"We humbly urge the president to reveal his plan, or at the least table it at the next CC meeting. We are young men, and out of respect, we won't set deadlines," said Wee.

On the issue where 16 CC members have asked for an EGM for a fresh CC poll, Wee surprised all by saying that youth CC did not discuss the matter at their meeting.

He added MCA Youth will respect all actions in accordance with the party constitution.

Wee who was one of the CC members who requested for an EGM, explained that since Ong insisted that the unity plan needed no approval from the CC and refused to communicate with CC members on the issue, they no choice but to bypass a CC meeting and instead call for an EGM

According to the party constitution, only when one third of CC members are in agreement, can they call for a meeting without the president's prior consent or approval.

On rumours that there may be a youth EGM to topple him, Wee said they were just that: "Rumours."

"The fact that the resolution were passed shows that I've have MCA Youth's backing," said Wee.

He said that when he had asked CC members one by one during the meeting, if they were unhappy with him and wanted him to make way for someone else, all said: "No."

"It's mere rumours to harm MCA Youth and an attempt by disgruntled parties to bring chaos and instability within the ranks," he added.
