MCA president Ong Tee Keat will table the party's "greater unity plan" at a central committee (CC) meeting next Tuesday.

Ong has also told party deputy president Liow Tiong Lai to come clear instead of "beating round the bush" if he wanted the president to resign for him to take over.

azlan "The key component of the unity plan is already out in the open – Dr Chua Soi Lek and I have agreed to set aside our differences and mobilise our resources and supporters to work together and strengthen the party," Ong said, yet again using his blog as his mouthpiece.

The plan also called for healing and transformation in the party to regain the confidence of party members and the public, he added.

Why are they so jittery?

Ong is puzzled why certain quarters were giving the impression that as president, he needed their permission or that of the CC to make peace with Chua who was reinstated as a party member after being sacked as deputy president.

"Why are these people so jittery about a peace initiative? The date for the next CC meeting will be set in the next few days, and I shall at that time table and discuss the unity plan with the CC members," he said.

"If the newly-elected deputy president wants me to resign so that he can ascend to the presidency, I believe he should make his stand very clear. We don’t solve problems by beating round the bush."

Ong also attacked party Youth chief Dr Wee Ka Siong and Wanita chief Chew Mei Fun for acting like the spokespersons for the 42-member CC and causing confusion over the unity plan.

Yesterday, 16 CC members including Wee and Chew asked for an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to call for fresh party elections.
