Fadzil Noor in ICU after heart bypass operation
PAS president Fadzil Mohd Noor underwent a heart bypass operation at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital (HUKM) in Cheras this morning and is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The 65-year-old opposition leader was wheeled into the operation theatre at 8.30am and five hours later was transferred to the ICU room.
When met outside the ICU, HUKM director Prof Dr Zulkifli Ismail, offered that Fadzil "is in stable condition". He declined to give further details.
Fadzil's political secretary, Dr Hatta Ramli, said that among those who visited him include PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat and Terengganu Mentri Besar Hadi Awang.
Chest pain
Yesterday, Hatta told malaysiakini that Fadzil went for his routine check-up at HUKM last Thursday and was resting at the Cardiology Treatment Unit.
It is learnt that Fadzil, who is also Pendang MP, has been going for follow-up treatment at HUKM following his admission to the Kuala Terengganu Hospital on May 10 after complaining of chest pain upon his arrival at the Sultan Mahmud Airport.
His heart's condition is believed to have been aggravated due to work stress during the three-day party general assembly in Kota Bharu, last week, where he attended all the sessions.
