Sex and corruption: Khalid to spill the beans at the right time
Controversy-courting writer Khalid Jafri has collected compelling evidence of sexual impropriety and corruption involving several prominent political leaders and has vowed to expose them when the time is right.
A source close to the writer who told malaysiakini this today, added that Khalid has decided not to reveal the information now as it concerns individuals who have retired from active politics.
"However, he told me that if they return to active politics and hold party or government posts, he will not hesitate to publish the evidence for the public to make their judgment," added the source.
Dismissing the allegation that the writer spins tall tales, the source stressed that Khalid does not level an accusation without substantial proof.
The writer, who is in his 60s, became a household name when he published a book in 1998 which listed 50 reasons why jailed ex-deputy premier Anwar Ibrahim could not become prime minister.
Months later Anwar was sacked and charged for abuse of power and sodomy. Found guilty of both offences, he is currently serving a 15-year jail term.
Puteri Umno target
Recently, another Umno politician was caught under Khalid's crosshairs Puteri Umno chief Azalina Othman.
In March, a weekly tabloid published by the writer featured allegations that Azalina was a lesbian and had used party funds to purchase a luxurious car for her lover. Azalina has denied both charges.
However, Khalid claimed he had proof and challenged the politician to take legal action.
Last week, the writer said he will publish a book that will reveal everything about the Puteri Umno chief.
According to the source, the reason why Khalid decided to publish the book was because Azalina will contest in the wing's inaugural election this October.
"As Azalina will contest the Puteri Umno top post, Khalid will also publish a book containing evidence of her alleged misappropriation of party funds and her alleged sexual misconduct," said the source.
Azalina, a lawyer-turned-politician, was recently accorded the position of Umno vice-president by the party's supreme council.
Khalid's tabloid, Perdana Sari , later had its licence suspended by the Home Ministry for publishing explicit photographs on "sex in campus".
