A Selangor state assemblyperson from PKR today lambasted his colleague from the DAP in the Selangor government for alleging that the state government had failed to meet the needs of the Indian community in the state.

MP Muthiah (PKR-Bukit Malawati) said M Manoharan (DAP-Kota Alam Shah) had no right to make a statement like that as several demands made by the DAP representative were the rights of all the people, not just the Indian community.

The Indian community only had the right to make demands on four matters which were language, religion, culture and history, he said when debating the state budget in the Selangor state assembly here today.

Last week, Manoharan criticised the state government, especially Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, alleging it had sidelined the welfare of the Indian community which had played an important role in the Pakatan Rakyat's win in the 2008 general election.

Muthiah however said he did not agree with Manoharan's view.

"The people have the right to elect a government that meets their needs," he said.
